Reservoirs Are Now Brains

Content Reservoirs were folded into brains. Where your reservoirs, keywords and captured items went, and which tools to use now.

BlackOps used to have two places for knowledge: reservoirs and brains. Now it has one. Every reservoir was moved onto a brain, its monitoring became a brain watch, and the Reservoirs pages are gone from the app. This page is the short version of what changed. Old reservoir links in the app and the docs bring you to the right brain or to this page.

What Happened to Your Reservoirs

Each reservoir was migrated once. Running the migration again changes nothing.

  • It became a brain. Each reservoir was mapped to an existing brain, or to a new brain named after it with the same description.
  • Its keywords became a watch. Monitored keywords, platforms and subreddits became a keyword watch on that brain. Keywords you had switched off came across as a watch that is turned off.
  • Your curated items came with it. Items you bookmarked, or that fed a draft, became ordinary notes in the brain.
  • Everything else was archived, not deleted. Unread discovery results were archived. They can be restored.
  • Captures go to Triage. Inbound email, Idea Inbox routing, browser extension capture and "add to brain" from monitoring now land in the Triage lane of the mapped brain.

Tool Replacements

The reservoir MCP tools still answer for one more release. Each one is marked deprecated and names its replacement. Move to the replacement now.

Deprecated toolUse instead
post_reservoir_ingestpost_brain_ingest
list_reservoirslist_brains
get_reservoirget_brain
list_reservoir_itemslist_notes with brain_id, or list_triage for unreviewed items
get_reservoir_itemget_note
patch_reservoir_itempatch_notes
delete_reservoir_itemdelete_notes, or dismiss_triage_item for an unreviewed item

post_reservoir_ingest is now a thin layer over brain ingest. With a brain_id it writes to that brain. Without one, it follows the reservoir's brain mapping. delete_notes has no times_referenced guard, so check a note's times_referenced before deleting it.
