Daily Highlights Review
A home-page card and optional daily email resurface ~12 highlights a day from your reading, with Favorite, Delete and Tag actions that shape future selection.
Readwise's daily review emails you a handful of highlights from your reading every morning, with one-click Favorite, Delete and Tag links. This feature brings that same review into BlackOps, resurfacing highlights already captured from the Kindle Highlights Import, Kindle Notebook Sync, or a Readwise import — on the home dashboard, and optionally by email.
Where to find it
- Home dashboard — the "Today's Highlights" card, enabled by default.
- Admin → Settings → Daily Highlights Review — turn the email on, pick source brains, and set a send time and timezone.
How selection works
Each day's set of ~12 highlights is picked once and stays the same all day, so the home card and the email (if enabled) always show the same highlights. The pick is weighted:
- Favorited highlights come up noticeably more often.
- Recently shown highlights are held back, decaying back to full weight over about a week.
- Deleted highlights never come back.
Highlights aren't separate database rows — they live as quoted blocks inside a "book" note's body (the same note a Kindle or Readwise import writes). Each highlight's identity is a hash of its normalized text, so acting on a highlight (favoriting, deleting, tagging) sticks even across a re-import.
Favorite, Delete, Tag
All three actions are available both on the home card and, for Favorite and Delete, as one-click links in the email — no login required, the same way the email's links work. Tag needs a value an email link can't collect, so the email's Tag link opens the admin UI instead.
Every action persists immediately and feeds back into the next day's selection: a favorited highlight is more likely to resurface, a deleted one never will.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Send the daily email | Independent of the home card, which always shows today's set regardless. |
| Source brains | Which brains to pull highlights from. Leave all unchecked to fall back to your default highlight brain (the one the browser extension saves to), then the Reading Highlights brain if that isn't set either. |
| Send time / timezone | When the email goes out, checked hourly. |
This review is deliberately its own email and its own settings, separate from the general daily digest (ideas, notes, reservoir items, tweets, posts) — mixing a focused reading review into a digest full of unrelated items would dilute both.
